To entertain and enrich the lives of Portland area seniors, their families and friends who enjoy coming together to experience live theater.

History

Bill Whitney Senior Players formed in 1991 and rehearsed and performed at Oasis in Meier and Frank in downtown Portland for 16 years until the store was remodeled in 2007. They performed published one-act and full-length plays, with the actors playing characters of all ages. In 1994 the troupe added Elsie Stuhr Senior Center to it rehearsal and performance venues, along with bookings at local senior centers and communities. The troupe called Elsie Stuhr home for 6 years. In 2001 the Players moved to Sherwood Senior Center while still performing at Oasis.They remained at Sherwood Senior Center for 10 years until Bill’s retirement in 2011. Throughout the entire 20 years Roy Metcalf was the Technical Director of the troupe and continues in that capacity under the troupe’s evolution as the Encore Senior Players directed by former actor Don Barney.
